Woad is one of several words in English that may be better left unspoken, for it sounds like "road" with a lisp. Try the extract of its quill-shaped leaves next time you're out for a tattoo: the blue eventually wears off, but it often leaves horrific scars like real oldtime battle wounds that you can wear proudly almost anywhere in Anglo-America.
