In June, surrounded by shrubs whose green berries won't mature or show color for another month or two, honeysuckles are notable for their orange and red berries. By mid-summer, in fact, the shrubs will be loaded with them. According to John Eastman, however, the fruits "are not preferred wildlife foods, though they are a readily available supplement" (110), and birds sometimes become intoxicated on the fermented berries.
